Amelia and Zelgadis
*Please bear in mind that this is
what I've come up with from viewing the anime, reading (or rather,
looking at all the pictures) the manga, and reading some of the novel
translations. What I say here may or may not be entirely true. It's
all mostly my interpretation of everything I've
seen/read/etc.*
For reasons that continue to amaze and astound me, the controversy
around these two being 'together' has generated more hate shrines
than I care to recall. It's a pity really because if people would
just accept what they see/read, there wouldn't be a problem and they
could find much more enjoyment out of watching Amelia and Zelgadis
interact. (I know I do! They're my favorite 'couple' so to speak.)
But enough of me...
Amelia and Zelgadis' first meeting doesn't go too well, but it
varies in the anime and manga. It the anime, Amelia seems a bit
scared by Zelgadis, and Zelgadis in turn is a bit put off by her
reaction to him. In the manga however, she is very eager to get
acquainted but it is Zelgadis that gives her the cold shoulder. But
in both they soon get to really know the other and become a great
team.
Something else that I find cool about these two is that they learn
from each other. In the novels Amelia teaches some White Magic to
Zelgadis (he can now cast Recovery!), and Zelgadis in turn teaches
her more Shamanistic Magic. This only adds to their teamwork fighting
against bad guys/monsters. (Got to love their Double Whammy Ra Tilt.)
And, before you decide to flame me, I'm not trying to convince you
that they are destined to be together like Lina and Gourry are.
Instead, I would rather there be an understanding that Amelia and
Zelgadis, while they probably aren't head-over-heels in love with
each other, are friends and do care about the other's wellbeing.
...besides, Zelgadis probably isn't ready (emotionally, mentally,
etc.) for a relationship... ^_-

Amelia's folly. After the battle with Eris comes to a
temporary draw, Amelia questions who Zelgadis is. If only
she had chosen a better way to put it...

After the battle with Copy Rezo comes to a temporary
draw, Lina introduces Amelia to Zelgadis.
"This is Amelia. This is Zelgadis." Lina says.
"It's a pleasure to meet you!" Amelia even offers to
shake hands.
Zelgadis, in turn, snubs Amelia. (Tsk tsk, now
who's the rude one?)
