Specialty: Gourry is perhaps the best swordsman alive; he's never been bested in a sword fight (as long as Lina doesn't get involved.)

The brawn of a troll and the brain of a jellyfish, or that's how Lina thinks of him. While it's true that Gourry won't win any awards for his brain power, he more than makes up for it with his mastery and skill with a blade. Not much of Gourry's past is known, but that's partially because he doesn't share much about his past (or maybe he forgot?) What is known is that he's the descendent of the original Swordsman of Light, and a descendeant of Rowdy Gabriev. Prior to meeting Lina, Gourry spent his time as a mercenary (basically doing anything to earn a buck.) The awesome thing about Gourry is his demeanor. He has got to be one of the nicest guys in Slayers, and just the person to put up with Lina 24/7.

Something that I've never understood is all the bashing Gourry gets because (for one example) he doesn't cast magic. People don't seem to understand that magic casting is seriously over rated! If Gourry wasn't around to fend off Lina's would-be attackers, she wouldn't be able to pull off all the spells she does since such things take a bit of time. (And we need not forget that Lina herself, "Sorceress Supreme", carries a short sword in case of emergencies...)

*According to one of the Slayers novels Gourry took the SoL and left home to stop his brother (whether he's older or younger?) from fighting over it. Poor Gourry really does mean well... too bad he gives it up later! ^_- *
