Specialty: Shamanism is Zelgadis' speciality, but he's also a skilled swordsman. Later in the series he also masters a bit of White magic.

Perhaps one of the most mysterious of any of the Slayers cast (aside from Xellos!), Zelgadis tends to keep most of his inner thoughts and feelings to himself. He says nothing of any family members except that Rezo the Red Priest was his grandfather and great-grandfather (?!?!) He was human at one time in his life, constantly training himself to become stronger than he was. Rezo approached him one day with the promise of making Zelgadis 'stronger' if he would become Rezo's follower. Zelgadis didn't quite understand what Rezo meant by 'stronger' until after he agreed and Rezo made him into a chimera: part human, demon, and golem-which did make Zelgadis physically stronger since his body was now stone-but much to Zelgadis's horror. He went along with Rezo's plans to find the Philosopher Stone, but he secretly plotted to kill Rezo once he found it. Unfortunately, Lina Inverse got involved and in the end Rezo, now the host of the reborn Shabrinigdo (an extremely powerful demon lord considering it was only a fragment of the actual demon!), was killed. Thus Zelgadis found new allies and a new mission in life: to return his body to it's former state.

One thing I find so interesting about his character is that he isn't what he appears to be. He acts like he detests being with Lina, Gourry, and especially Amelia, but he does enjoy their company. Aside from that, they accept him for who he is-not what he looks like.(At least Amelia does, it seems that she never realizes WHAT he is since she constantly jumps in front of him to protect him-only to be thrown or injured.) Plus, he has the habit of blushing in compromising situations! He especially does so in Amelia's company ( I'd list the examples, but there are far too many, plus it leaves something for you to do if you ever watch, or re-watch the Slayers!) *Guess what? *Nothing special, I just want to say (for the record) that Zelgadis is NOT drinking coffee as many seem to believe. In the manga, and even in the anime he is drinking TEA!* (Stop giving me weird looks, I'm just really tired of reading about his love for coffee! Don't you think he'd be really agitated and have icky teeth if he really did drink coffee??)
