An anime series just wouldn't complete without at least one clumsy character! (No offense...) Amelia, a 14-year-old princess of Seyruun, is widely known for her love for justice. She takes after her father, Philionel el de Seyruun, in this act, but she also has her own reasons for being a "justice-freak". It is rumored (in the manga) that Amelia's mother was killed by a sword, which seems to be a pretty good reason why she doesn't carry one. Her mother's death must have been devastating and pushed Amelia to correct the wrongs committed, including that death. It is also rumored that her older sister Gracia, the crown princess of Seyruun, who went crazy and ran away from home after mom's death, is none other than Naga the White Serpent herself! (I have plenty of evidence to back this "rumor" up. Click here! ^-^)
Amelia specializes in white magic, but like Zelgadis, uses shamanist magic, which includes her "killer spell", the Ra Tilt. Her other spell, the Visfarank, is one she made up herself (I heard), which concentrates magic energy into her fist to form what looks like a glowing pair of justice boxing gloves.
I know a lot of people think that Amelia is a total freak when it comes to her father Philionel, but think about it... Her father is basically the only family member (that we know of anyway) that she has left. Her sister ran away and her mother, Uncle Randy, and cousin Alfred all get killed for some reason. Something else to think about is how strange her family is... Anyway, you can see how much she cares for her father; remember that section of NEXT when everyone believed that Phil was dead? She was horrified. She was standing in the library hugging a book that he used to read to her and remembering her childhood. Even for the people that hate Amelia's guts for whatever stupid reason they can think of, it is completely heartless to hate someone for loving their parent(s). I mean, everyone should love and respect their parents, right? (I hope so, anyway...)
Something else to point out (although it is completely obvious!) is her little crush on Zelgadis. A lot of people say that she "hangs all over him" or that someone should save Zel from her, but they are just over reacting. Although (I do admit this) she does make a big deal over him, she looks past his outer "hideous" appearance and looks into his heart, and obviously she sees something good in him, or else why would she care about him?!? She tries to cheer him up when he is down (which is most of the time) and protects him if he needs it or not (think about that battle with Copy Rezo). Something else I want to say: About the point I made about her "hanging all over Zel", well, I think it is stupid how most people find it "illegal" for Amelia to do it, if she does it or not, but as for reality, it is okay for girls to totally hang all over there boyfriends... What the heck is the difference there?!?
The only problem with this crush is one thing: jealousy. (This happens in reality as well between girls and guys who have crushes on each other. I see it all the time.) I've come across two occasions when Amelia is guilty of this. (Bad Amelia! Bad!) In episode 17 of NEXT the group has to cross dress once again to gain access to Femille, a city where men are forbidden to be (and if seen are executed). (Forbidden? Hey, I'd like to go there!) They split up in the usual parties and explore a bit. Zel gets separated from Amelia and bugs out on his own. He notices Miwan (a girl he met earlier in the episode) running by and decides to follow her. As he's running by, he all but tramples poor Amelia, who just stands there staring dumbfoundedly. She travels back to a restaurant where Lina and the others are (gee, imagine that) and sits down with a disgusted expression. Xellos asks her where Zelgadis is, and she explodes, "I DON'T CARE! *hmph!*" What a liar... not much later she asks the question, "What about Mr. Zelgadis?" Figures. Also in episode 11 of TRY, the group comes across a temple where they must couple up to be able to go inside. By turning a wheel, they receive a colored ball which will determine who they get paired up with. Lina and Zel both get red, Gourry and Amelia get blue, and as disgusted as they are, Filia and Xellos get yellow. Of course they can't stand the idea of going in together, so they don't. Anyway, back to the point... Through the whole thing Amelia and Lina both feel awkward, and later Lina gets mad at Amelia for losing Gourry in the darkness. Amelia then points out the fact that Lina should have been with Gourry in the first place, and while all this quarreling goes on, poor Zel is kind of standing in the background feeling awkward himself.
(Yikes! Amelia's profile came out longer than Lina's!)
