The 15-year-old genius sorceress and also the main character, Lina Inverse is well known throughout her world as "the bandit killer", "dragon spooker", or "enemy of all who live" by anyone who dares to say that to her her face. She specializes in black magic, which her favorite spell is the deadly Dragon Slave (Dragu Slave, Drug Slave), but also has a bit of shamanist and white magic. She also secretly possesses the Giga Slave, a spell that could destroy the world if miscasted, but she tries never to use it again after she finds out it's purpose.
Lina wasn't always "famous" though. As a little girl in Zephillia, her hometown, she was constantly plagued by her older sister Luna's presence and hidden by her shadow, until Lina decided to leave home and create a name for herself. Since then she has been deathly afraid of Luna. (In episode two of TRY, she points out how battling a dark lord one hundred times over is easier than confronting Luna equipped with a bamboo pole.)
As for the things she likes, Lina loves eating to the point that she consumes about three servings or more in one meal to appease her monstrous appetite! She also loves treasure which pushes her to stealing from local bandits to "support" herself, which is how she runs into Gourry and crosses Zelgadis' plans. Gourry, thinking Lina is a little girl instead of some babe, ends up being her first "lackey", and she later meets up with Zelgadis, Amelia, and Sylphiel. Lina later finds out that despite his densinity, he wields the legendary Sword of Light ("Hikari no Ken" in Japanese), his family heirloom. Lina makes up an excuse that she'll follow Gourry around until he finally decides to give her the sword, which would make her the most powerful sorceress. Of coarse, this excuse seems not to matter after a while ^-^. Although Lina won't admit it to anyone, she obviously falls in love with the dimwit, and will do anything to keep him safe (the end of NEXT in a very good example). Of course she is secretive when it comes to that subject and most of the time just treats him as if he didn't matter at all.
