Parodies and "Slip-Ins"

Have you ever noticed something that caught you completely by surprise or saw something that referred to another anime? I know I have! Here I've listed things I've noticed throughout the series' of Slayers and more! Some of these I found around the internet and some I noticed myself. These are mostly listed by episodes, etc. Sometime I hope to get screen shots to back these up. I'll hopefully be adding more to this list.

Slayers TV

To start, for anyone who's seen Pokémon out there, remember the episode "The Ghost of Maiden's Peak"? It's the one when James and Brock are "charmed" by the ghost of a maiden, who really turns out to be a Gastly in disguise. Keep that in mind. Now, have you ever noticed the shape of the Orihalcon Statue? Yup, you guessed it. The Orihalcon Statue in Slayers has the exact proportions of the Maiden's Peak in Pokémon! Each have the long hair, the same pose, and the head band across the forehead; the only difference is the flower in the ghost's hair (Pokémon). Of course, Pokémon and Slayers were animated by the same Japanese company, after all, so they had to sneak that into Pokémon.

Episode 11: Knock Out! The Seyruun Family Feud!- Lina is "hired" by Prince Philionel and Randy to exterminate monsters that inhabit a cave. While attacking an ogre/troll, she uses Balus Rod which resembles a whip, then makes fun at the anime "Sorcerer Hunters" by using a semi-famous line: "Call me Queen! Call me Queen!"

Episode 12: Lovely! Amelia's Magic Training!- Is it just me, or does that certain bandit closely resemble Popeye's nemisis?

Episode 17: Question? He's Proposing to THAT Girl?- There are quite a few for this one!

One of the most obvious is Gourry...er, Lala's hairstyle, resembling that of Usagi's/Serena's "dumpling/meatball" style!

While the crowd of men are stomping the framed cockroach, Lina/Lili is explaining things to Gourry/Lala. While Amelia/Lulu is straying away from the conversation, she notices a scantly dressed, long-haired woman pass by in the foreground. This "mysterious woman" is believed to be Naga, rumored to be Amelia's older sister. (I have evidence on this case! Go check them out!)

Near the end of the episode, Gourry "frees" himself by ripping off most of his dress, revealing the SD Zelgadis plushie in with his bra-stuffings. (Just a note, the Zel plush looks extremely discontented!)

Episode 20: Trouble! Rahanimu, the Furious Fish Man!- When the group separates to fight monsters (Lina, Gourry and Sylphiel, Zelgadis and Amelia) Zel and Amelia are left to handle the several chimera creatures. When Zel is casting a Fireball to finish them off, the Fireball appears to take the form of a heart. (I saw it!)

Episode 26: Zap! Victory is Always Mine!- When Amelia and Zelgadis are casting Ra-Tilt at Copy Rezo, again a heart is formed in the making. (I saw that, too.)

Soon enough I'll be adding Slayers NEXT and TRY! I need to watch them again!
